Most garage websites ask you to take the work on trust. A tidy reception photograph, a line about years of experience, and nothing that shows what actually happens once a car is on the ramp.
These case studies are the opposite of that. Each one follows a single vehicle through our workshop on Wentloog Road in Rumney, from the first inspection to the finished repair, with the photographs taken as the work was done rather than staged afterwards. Where a decision went against what the customer first hoped for, that is written down as well.
The method is the same whether it is a corroded sill, a failed emissions test or a gearbox out on the floor. It exists because the alternative, a verbal quote and a bill at the end, is how customers end up feeling stitched up even when the work was sound.
CF3 MOT & Service Centre is a DVSA-approved Class 4 MOT test centre at Unit 4C, Wentloog Buildings, on Wentloog Road in Rumney. The building runs six work bays with separate areas for welding and diagnostics, and an on-site spray booth.
That layout is the reason these case studies exist at all. A vehicle needing structural welding and then paint usually travels between two or three firms, collecting delay and a margin at every handover, and nobody ends up owning the finished result. Here the inspection, the welding, the bodywork and refinishing and the retest all happen on one site, under one set of hands.
The workshop has been run by Ali Hindal since 2013, and the technicians who appear in these case studies are the same people who will look at your car. There is no subcontracting of the structural work and no sending vehicles out for the parts of a job that are difficult.
Experience across makes matters more on this kind of work than it does on routine servicing. A wet belt engine, a motorhome chassis and a modern electronic parking brake each need a different approach, and the case studies are chosen partly to show that range rather than to show the easy jobs.
Most of the cars in these case studies came from close by: Rumney, Llanrumney, St Mellons, Trowbridge, Pentwyn and the Newport Road corridor, plus the wider CF3 area. Our recovery vehicles cover Cardiff, so a car that is not safe to drive does not need to be driven in.
Specialist work travels further than routine servicing does, and welding is the clearest example. Fewer garages across south Wales will take on structural corrosion repair, because it needs a dedicated bay, a tester who can sign the retest off, and the willingness to tell an owner when a shell has run out of road. That is why MOT failure work reaches us from outside the immediate area.
