Car problems rarely show up at a convenient moment.
Your Ford Focus might start pulling to the left on the Newport Road commute, a warning light appears on a Vauxhall Astra dashboard on the school run, or a clunking noise develops on a diesel van used for deliveries across Rumney and St Mellons. CF3 MOT & Service Centre handles the full range of car and van mechanical repairs at our 6,000 sq ft garage on Wentloog Road, Rumney, Cardiff CF3 1TH. We use dealer-level OBD2 diagnostic equipment, issue written quotes before any work is started, and carry out every repair in-house with no subcontracting.
Mechanical repairs at CF3 cover engine faults, brake systems, clutch and drivetrain issues, suspension, cooling system failures, exhaust work, and timing belt replacements. We serve drivers from Rumney, Llanrumney, St Mellons, Newport Road, Roath, Trowbridge, and Cyncoed. If your car or van has a fault and you want it found accurately and fixed properly, this is what we do.

What Is Covered Under Mechanical Repairs?
A mechanical repair covers any fault in the moving, load-bearing, or drivetrain systems of a vehicle. The category is broad, and drivers coming to our Rumney garage often need more than one issue addressed at the same visit.
Mechanical Repair Services We Provide in Cardiff
- Engine fault diagnosis and repair: misfires, power loss, overheating, oil leaks
- Brake system repairs: pads, discs, callipers, master cylinders, brake hoses and pipes
- Clutch and gearbox: full clutch kit replacement, dual-mass flywheel, hydraulic faults
- Suspension and steering: shock absorbers, control arms, anti-roll bar links, track rods, wheel bearings, ball joints
- Exhaust system: manifold repair, mid-section and rear box replacement, catalytic converters, lambda sensors
- Cooling system: water pump, thermostat, radiator, head gasket assessment, pressure testing
- Timing belts and chains: replaced at manufacturer-recommended intervals to avoid engine damage
- CV joints and driveshafts
- Power steering: fluid leaks, rack and pinion faults, pump failure
We connect to the vehicle's ECU via OBD2 before any quote is raised. For intermittent faults, we road-test the car and pull stored historical codes, which often capture problems that are not active at the time of inspection. We do not recommend parts without first identifying the fault with live data.
Situations That Bring Cardiff Drivers to Our Rumney Workshop
VW Golf Brake Calliper — Llanrumney
A driver commuting from Llanrumney to Newport notices their Volkswagen Golf pulling sharply to the left under braking. It could be a seized calliper, uneven pad wear, or a brake pipe fault. We put it on the ramp, identify a seized front calliper, and have it repaired the same afternoon.
Diesel Van EGR Fault — Newport Road Taxi
A taxi operator covering the Newport Road and Adamsdown area brings in a diesel van running roughly at idle with an engine management light on. Every hour the van sits in a garage is lost income. We carry out a same-day scan, read a live EGR valve fault, and have the vehicle back on the road the same afternoon.
MOT Failure Repair and Retest — Cardiff
A Cardiff family car has failed its MOT at another local garage on brake and suspension grounds. The owner brings the failure certificate to us. We repair the listed items, carry out a pre-retest check, and complete the retest the same day.
Pre-Purchase Inspection — BMW 3 Series Cardiff
A driver buys a used BMW 3 Series privately in Cardiff and wants a full mechanical check before relying on it for daily use. We carry out a systematic ramp inspection covering brakes, suspension, drivetrain, belts, and fluid condition, then produce a written report of findings.
Why Cardiff Drivers Trust CF3 for Mechanical Repairs
10 Years in Rumney, Cardiff
CF3 MOT & Service Centre has operated from its Wentloog Road garage in Rumney for over 10 years. Our mechanics have backgrounds across main dealer and specialist independent workshops, with hands-on experience on petrol, diesel, and hybrid systems covering all major brands.
DVSA-Approved MOT Station
We are a DVSA-approved MOT testing station. That accreditation means our working standards are assessed and regulated against a national framework, not just judged internally. It applies across the workshop, not only in the MOT bay.
Parts Warranty and Labour Guarantee
All parts we fit carry a manufacturer warranty. Labour is guaranteed. Written cost breakdowns go out before any work begins and nothing is added to a job without your approval first.
